Traffic Fatalities Continue Rising, Mostly Blamed on Cell Phone Use
Traffic fatalities are spiraling across the country. In the first quarter of this year, U.S. traffic deaths reached a high not seen since 2002. According to earlier estimates from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, during that period traffic fatalities increased 7% compared to the year prior. A car’s color can help or hurt its resale value, according to a new analysis by iSeeCars.com. After comparing prices of more than 650,000 recently sold three-year-old used cars, iSeeCars determined the average three-year vehicle depreciation rate by car color. Surprisingly, the study found bold colors like yellow and orange tend to hold their color best, while common colors like black and white depreciate at a rate close to average, which is 15%, or about a $6,096 difference from their manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP).

Catalytic Converter Theft Rampant Across the Nation
The dramatic rise of catalytic converter thefts across the nation since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic has prompted Iowa and 34 other states to either consider or pass legislation to address the problem. Iowa Used Car Prices Among Highest in the Country
Used car prices have risen an average of 30.4 percent across states over last year, according to iSeeCars.com’s latest used car price analysis of 1.8 million car sales in March. This is down from a 35 percent increase in February. Interestingly, iSeeCars’ pricing analysis found that used car price increases are not consistent across the country. Used cars in Iowa, for instance, ranked sixth highest in the country, averaging an increase of 32.6 percent from last year or a year-over-year price change of $8,891.

Used Car Price Increases Vary by State
The global microchip shortage has caused used car prices to skyrocket to over 30 percent between March and June of this year. This is the largest jump in used car prices since 1974, when in a period of three months used car prices jumped by 12 percent. According to iSeeCars.com’s June used car pricing analysis of over 1.9 million used car sales in June, the overall average increase of used car prices was 32.7 percent or $7,583 compared to the previous year. This comes after a 26.4 percent year-over-year increase in May and a 16.8 percent year-over-year increase in April.
